The season opened with the Thunderbird Rally, February 15-18 in Merritt, BC. Glenn Wallace and I once again brought the Subaru Forester home in 2nd place. I seem to have a wall full of 2nd place trophies.
Next up will be the No Alibi Rally, run in Eastern Washington, June 1-2
With the 2012 Rally Season now over I'd like to thank all my "guest drivers" for helping me to have a great 50th year in rally.

The Totem Rally
Headquartered in Cache Creek, this event marked the end of R.Dale's 50th Anniversary Tour. Once again R.Dale teamed with Glenn Wallace to defend their 2011 win this time falling 4 seconds short and finishing 2nd.
R.Dale and long time friend Steve Richards from Everett, WA teamed up for two long days of great gravel roads between Portland and Coos Bay, OR. When teh dust cleared they had finished 4th and both were smiling at the really busy, fun rally.
"The 2012 Nor'Wester was a tour of the crunchy bits of Eastern Washington, a smidge of Oregon, and a large part of Central Idaho, with sustained hillclimbs, breathtaking vistas, meandering forest tracks, and a pine cone or two. Starting in the cattle hub of Washington, Ellensburg, the rally pursued the lesser traveled environs through ranches, farms, forests, and vineyards."
R.Dale and regular driver Glenn Wallace of Redmond, WA teamed up in Glenn's Subaru Forester September 15-16 finishing 3rd
Press on Regardless
2012 marks the 63rd Anniversary (64th running) of the Detroit Region Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Press On Regardless Rally (POR), the oldest continuously run rally in North America. R.Dale teamed with Doug Shepherd of Detroit, MI who co-drove with John Buffum to win the 1980 rally. R.Dale co-drove for Rod Millen to win the 1981 version of the event. The rally was headquartered in Indian River, MI and ran into the early morning hours of September 7th and 8th. Doug and R.Dale finished 3rd.
Mountains to the Sea
R.Dale teamed with Max Vayburd from Redmond Washington in his Subaru Impreza. Max was a member of Team Arctic Challengers on this years Alcan Rally and together with navigator Nicki Beverley won the SOP Class. This was the first time for R.Dale and Max to team up. The event ran from Portland to the Oregon coast on August 11th with R.Dale and Max squeaking out a .01 minute victory.
The Monte Shelton Northwest Classic Rally
R.Dale teamed again with Paul Eklund in his 1972 Fiat 124 Spider to defend their 2011 win. The Rally started at the Monte Shelton Motors in downtown Portland Oregon on July 27th. Friday and Saturday nights were spent at the beautiful Mt. Bachelor Village in Bend Oregon. Unfortunately, the Speedo/odo cable broke in the first 2 miles of the event leaving the team to create makeshift charts of the relationship of the tach to speed in various gears. In spite of the handicap the team finished 5th in Standard Class and 6th o/a bettering 94 cars. In all, a really fun weekend.
The No Alibi Rally
Began and ended in Kennewick WA using some of the fantastic gravel roads of Eastern Washington, NE Oregon and Idaho. R.Dale's "Guest" Driver for this event was Lee Sorenson. Although teaming up in the Stage Rally Pace Car for two events, they had never run a TSD Rally together before, however they had both previously won this event.
This was a really fun weekend for both of us although we had to settle for a hard fought for 6th place. Congratulations to my son Russ and Satch Carleson for winning this rally in a Vintage Saab Sonnet.
The Trail of the Gnu
R.Dale teamed up with old friend Tom Burgess to drive in this winter event. Tom and R.Dale have rallied against each other since the late sixty's but never rallied together. Tom was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 1998.
After leading the event through seven of the ten TSD sections, a navigation error (turning two pages in the route book instead of one) resulted in a Third place in Unlimited Class.
The Alcan Winter Rally
After leading the Alcan at the end of the eighth day (of nine), the engine on the Forester decided it had had enough fun for one rally and seized up in the parking lot of the hotel. So it's a DNF for the team of Eklund/kraushaar.
The Thunderbird Rally
R.Dale teamed with Glenn Wallace for a hard fought for 2nd O/A and 1st in Unlimited Class. Headquartered in Merritt, BC this event runs primarily in snow and ice for two days.
